Potty Training

Potty Training

Starting on day one we have begun the training process. We have our dog kendel all setup and ready to go. I have my wife doing most if not all the training for now as I am not able to help do to travels for work. But we will do.

I have owned boxers in the passed and by far Boxers are the easiest to train. You can train your dog at any age.

Okay, so lets get started. Things that you are going to need:
Cage
Leash
Pet deodorizer carpet cleaner.
Poopy bags or recycle your grocery bags
Treats (boiled liver of any kind) Chicken or beef.

*Optional: Recommend a fanny pack (I know its for 90s)

You will need to take your Boxer on walks everyday. Not for just the exercise, which they need to burn up the energy they have built up. But you will need to Bond with your boxer and this gives you a chance to reward them on the spot for pooping and peeing out side. This works out great if you live in a pet friendly environment. *Use your "Fanny pack" to put your treats and poopy bags and other stuff in to keep you hands free and in full control of your boxer.

So now that you are on a roll with the daily walks. While you are in the house you should do you best to limit the places the dog can run around in your home. I would recommend that you keep your Boxer on a lease at all times so that you can watch them all the time. If you can watch them every second put them in the cage. (Contain the mess) Until you boxer doesn't pee/poo in the house for at least 6 months your boxer is not potty trained yet. Most of the Boxers that I have had could be trained in a few weeks. Some tricks can be taught in a few minutes.

Now with puppies you will need to them out to pee every hour depending on their age. for every month old is the amount of time they can hold their pee. So for example if you pup is 2 months old they should be able to hold their pee for about 2 hours. (Or at least this is the rule of thumb I follow.)

Create training is the best method I think. I keep my Bella in the cage at night and while I'm out. So in the morning First thing I do is take Bella directly from the cage to the back yard as fast as I can. Not to give her a chance to pee or poop in the cage. Granted right now she is very young and she pees when she sees me and she goes spastic.

I limit the feeding time to once a day unless the Vet says otherwise. Do not leave your Boxer to a unlimited supply of food. Water on the other hand is a good Idea. The key for feeding is after they finish eating they almost always need to go outside to poo/pee. So grab up your leash and your boxer out.

Praise
You Boxer loves high energy and praise. This reinforced the good behavior. So anytime your boxer is doing what you want them to do then praise them with alot of energy and give treats. You kinds become their cheer leader and they get all excite that you are excited and this will help them to learn that what they were doing is the right them.

Key Words
When you open you crate in the morning and are taken the puppy to the today. Say a word or phrase like "Go Peepee", or "Go Outside", or "Go Potty" That way they associate the word with the function. Just pick one phrase and don't change it up.

When you catch your Boxer don't the poo/pee in the house. Sternly yell "Stop" or "No" to get their attention that they messed up. This is why keeping the boxer on a lease at all times in the house is a good idea because you can't correct the bad behavor if you can't see them.

When it is bed time and you want your Boxer to go to their crate. Use "go to bed" or "crate" anything you want. just stay consistent.

When your boxer goes poo or pee out side. Say "Good 'boy' or 'girl'" or "Very Good" Show tons of energy to your boxer that you are very happy they pooped and peed outside.

When it is time to eat is use "Chow Time" or "Gohan" (Japanese) [Mean "meal" or "rice"].

No mater what you do stay consistent stick to a schedule and you will have them training in no time.

New Boxer Puppy

Welcome Home :)

3 Month Old Bella
We have a new Boxer puppy in our family. Her Name is Bella. She is 3 months old and in great shape. Beautiful Fawn Colors and sweet and energetic.

Our journey to pick her up from the breeder was about a 1:30 drive. The drive there was pretty quick. There was two females remaining from the litter. We picked the Boxer that was more calm and seemed to mind pretty well.

The drive home was exciting as well up to the 45 minute mark. When she stood on my wife's lap and leaned her head over to me and threw up. It was like a log of dog food had came out. (sorry for the graphic image.) This caused us to make and emergency stop to clean the mess up on the side of the highway. I guess she go motion sick. (first time in a car).

First thing we did when we got home was introduce her to the house and the back yard and then gave her a bath. She was a little nervous, maybe due to the being wet and having the chills after. I wrapped her in a towel and held her in the couch with me to help calm her nerves and to also warm her and dry her completely.

We made sure to say her name over and over to get her use to start hearing her name being called. She did pee on the carpet, but that was to be expected.

Supplies

Things that we needed to get for Bella. We already had a large dog cage. We need dog food and treats and puppy chew bones to keep her busy while in the cage for extend times.

I had a dog bed that I used when I use to have Boxers from before. I placed it in here cage so she would have something comfortable to lay on while we went to store to get the supplies.

When we got back Bella had a present waiting for us. Mama took her right out to pee and I cleaned up hte presents in the cage and took the dog bed out as it had the gift smeared on it. :)
